PBKids Recalls Avengers and Star Wars Water Bottles Due to Excessive Lead Paint

Pottery Barn Kids has issued a recall of Avengers and Darth Vader themed stainless steel water bottles due to excessive lead levels in the gray paint on the exterior of the bottles, which violate the federal lead paint standard.

One water bottle features images of Thor, the Incredible Hulk, and Iron Man on the bottle; the other features images of Darth Vader and the Death Star from Star Wars.  They were sold at Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Outlet stores nationwide, through the Pottery Barn Kids catalog, and online, from June 2014 through September 2015.

Consumers are urged to take away the water bottles from children and return them to the nearest Pottery Barn Kids store or call 844-421-8062 for free shipping information.  Consumers will be offered a full refund or a replacement bottle as well as a $20 Pottery Barn Kids gift card.

Lead is a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, and/or other reproductive harm.  Companies offering products for sale in California that contain lead must, under Proposition 65 law, provide consumers with a health hazard warning of the risks of exposure.

The Chanler Group represents citizen enforcers who, acting in the public interest, commence actions against businesses offering products for sale in California that contain chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive harm without first providing the health hazard warning required by Proposition 65. Citizen enforcers bringing Proposition 65 actions in the public interest may obtain a Court Judgment imposing civil penalties, an injunction requiring reformulation of products, and/or provision of health hazard warnings
