Michael DiPirro and The Herbert Stanley Company entered into a settlement agreement on August 16, 1999, which resolved citizen enforcer Michael DiPirro's allegations that Herbert Stanley manufactured and distributed a tarnish remover solvent containing thiourea in the State of California without providing the requisite health hazard warnings.

Pursuant to the terms of the parties' settlement, beginning on August 15, 1999, Herbert Stanley was required to implement and provide specific and prominent health hazard warnings regarding the type of harm associated with thiourea contained in the products that it shipped to California for sale or distribution.

The settlement requires settlement payments of $24,700, divided therein between civil penalties, 75% of which are paid to California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, and compensation to whistleblower Michael DiPirro and his counsel for their successful enforcement of this matter in the public interest.
