Citizen enforcer Michael DiPirro filed an action against Velleman Components N.V. and Velleman, Inc. which concluded on May 29, 2002, when a Consent Judgment was executed in DiPirro v. Velleman Components N.V., et al. that resolved DiPirro's allegations that the defendants sold solder and soldering kits/sets containing the heavy metal lead in the State of California without providing the requisite health hazard warnings.

As part of the settlement agreement, the defendants agreed to place health hazard warnings on the covered products sold after May 28, 2002.

The Consent Judgment requires settlement payments of $22,000, to be divided therein between civil penalties, 75% of which are paid to California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, and compensation to whistleblower DiPirro and his counsel for their successful enforcement of this matter in the public interest.
