The Honorable Ronni MacLaren of the Alameda County Superior Court entered a Revised Consent Judgment in Leeman v. Ross Stores, Inc., et al., on January 10, 2008. In this matter, citizen enforcer Whitney R. Leeman, Ph.D., alleged that Ross Stores, Inc. ("Ross") sold cosmetic kits containing the heavy metal lead in the State of California without providing the requisite health hazard warnings.

As part of the settlement, Ross agreed not to sell any cosmetic kits in California after December 17, 2007, without first providing Leeman with notice of its intent to offer cosmetic kits for sale in California.

There is no monetary penalty for this case. Ross shall reimburse whistleblower Leeman and her counsel $18,000 for the cost of investigating, bringing this matter to Ross's attention, and negotiating a settlement in the public's interest.
